About Us

Society for Health Environment and Rural Development Project (SHERDP)
is a non-partisan, non-political, secular and non-governmental organisation based out of Paramathi Block of Namakkal district, Tamil Nadu. SHERDP engages in the welfare of landless dalit people, protection of environment and awareness of health and hygiene. It strongly believes in the sustainable development with equitable distribution of the fruits of development and equal opportunities for all citizens.

Genesis

SHERDP
was established in 1996 in Namakkal in Tamilnadu. It was founded by Mr. R. Muniyandi who had been engaged in committed social work for several years. Since 1996, women empowerment and rural development programs have improved the quality of life for thousands of women and their families in Tamilnadu, India. SHERDP’s holisitic approach to community development and poverty alleviation has made it an effective and invaluable ally for the rural communities in South India. 

History

SOCIETY FOR HEALTH ENVIRONMENTAL AND RURAL DEVELOPMENT PROJECT
, known as SHERDP was established and registered under Tamilnadu Societies Registration Act act in 1996. It began its activities with women development through formation of women SHGs and motivating them to start savings and thrift habits, Bio diversity conservation, Environmental Protection, Waste management. SHERDP extended its activities by forming federations, providing revolving funds to Self Help Groups (SHGs) to start micro enterprise activities among dalits, providing them capacity building and income generation activities. The organization’s work is spread across 60 villages, impacting over 14,000 men, women and children in the Paramathi block of the Namakkal district of Tamil Nadu, South India.

Our Vision:

SHERDP aims to establish equality among human society, irrespective of caste, creed, gender, region, religion, or language.

Our Mission:

To develop the oppressed and down trodden community through their own full participation and social action programme for the achievement of their livelihood, social security human rights, gender equity and solidarity for their sustainable development.

SHERDP towards creating a sustainable developmental system

- To train local youth – women and men to sustain the developmental process.
- To develop natural resources and manage them and to create linkages between People’s Organization and eco regeneration in a just and equitable manner.
- To link with other organizations and to effect a change in the policy of the Government and other Establishment
- To support and network with other NGOs with similar vision and mission.
